Silva
joined the firm in 2010. In addition to serving of counsel, he works as a lieutenant and Public Information
Officer. Attorney Silva has extensive law enforcement experience, as he has
served for the last 19 years for the New Bedford Police Department. He
focuses on litigation and brings his extensive experience in representing
his clients in the areas of criminal defense, traffic tickets, motor
vehicle appeals, employment discrimination, and labor law disputes, as well
as mediation services. Attorney Silva has been honored for his
achievements, heroism, and honorable service from governmental and public
agencies. He is also a member of the 241st Session of the
Federal Bureau of Investigation’s of the National Academy. He has worked as
a police cadet, patrol officer, community police officer, background investigator,
homicide and major crimes detective, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant in
the internal affairs division, as well as with the narcotics division
assigned to the federal drug task force at the Drug Enforcement
Administration and as a patrol lieutenant, before being named the
spokesperson of the Police Department as a Public Information Officer. Attorney Silva has extensive experience
in the district and superior courts of the Commonwealth and the United
States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, as well as the
Unemployment Division, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination,
and the Merit Systems Protection Board, in addition to various other
committees. He is prepared to
zealously advocate for his clients and to help fulfill our firm’s promise
of integrity, commitment and results. Attorney
Silva is an Honors Graduate of
Stonehill College, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He is also a
graduate of Middlebury College and its campus in Madrid, Spain at El Instituto Internacional, where he received his Master’s
Degree. He received his law degree from the Southern New England School of
Law (now known as University of Massachusetts School of Law at Dartmouth). Mr. Silva had the honor of serving on the Editorial
Board of the Law Review, and was
the recipient of numerous academic awards, scholarships, and recognition
during that time. Attorney
Silva is a member of the New Bedford Police Association, Massachusetts
Police Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, New Bedford Bar
Association, Bristol County Bar Association, and the Plymouth District Bar
Association. Attorney Silva is admitted to practice before all Massachusetts courts. He is also fluent in Spanish.
